DTF Heat Press Settings

Heat Press Guide

Temps, times, peel tips, and fixes for transfers that won’t stick. Always verify your platen with a thermometer — dial settings can run hot or cold. Full walkthrough: How to Apply DTF Transfers.

Recommended press settings

  • Cotton — 305–325°F · 15–20 seconds · Medium–firm pressure · Hot peel · Second press 5–10 seconds
  • Polyester — ~260–280°F · ~8–12 seconds · Lighter pressure · Cool or careful peel · Second press short
  • 50/50 blends — ~300–310°F · ~12–15 seconds · Medium pressure · Usually hot peel · Second press recommended
  • Performance / nylon — Lower temp · Shorter time · Test first · Cool peel often safer

Press workflow

  1. Pre-press — 5–10 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles before you place the transfer.
  2. Place & cover — transfer face down. Cover with parchment. Tape if the design may shift.
  3. Press — use fabric-matched time, temp, and firm even pressure across the whole design.
  4. Peel — most LavishDTF films are hot peel. Peel slowly at a low angle. Cold-peel films must cool first.
  5. Second press — 5–10 seconds under parchment locks adhesive into the fibers and improves wash life.

Common failures

  • Not sticking — platen too cool, pressure too light, or peeled too early on cold-peel film
  • Edges lifting — increase pressure/time slightly and always do the second press
  • Shiny / plastic look — usually over-pressed; reduce time or pressure on the next run
  • Cracking — don’t stretch the garment while hot; let it cool, then wash inside-out cold

Heat press FAQ

Do I need a heat press?
A heat press is strongly recommended. Home irons are uneven and often fail on durability.

Hot peel or cold peel?
Most LavishDTF transfers are hot peel. If a film is cold peel, wait until fully cool before peeling.

Why is the second press important?
It sinks adhesive into the fibers and is one of the biggest wash-durability upgrades.

Dark garments?
Yes — every transfer includes a white underbase so color stays bright on dark fabrics.
